THE GHANA SME IMPACT INVESTMENT SUPPORT PROJECT Terms of Reference: Call for Technical Assistance Providers Hiring Entity: Innohub Foundation

 

A. Context
Innohub Foundation with support from GIZ, has launched the Ghana SME Impact Investment Support (GSIIS) Project to drive more traction for SME investment in Ghana by providing Pre and Post Investment Technical Assistance to selected SMEs.


The GSIIS project is designed to offer highly tailored support to investee companies to address Technical Assistance (TA) needs identified by their respective investors, in line with their post-investment portfolio support strategy. In cases of pre-investment TA, the commitment by the investors to invest could be shown through investment committee approvals and an investment offer letter or Term Sheet, which is very explicit on the preconditions and timelines for final closure and funds disbursement.


The project will provide TA support for Ghanaian led SMEs who are impact-focused and will support about 10 - 12 investee companies over an 18-month period. As part of the support package for these selected SMEs, Innohub is recruiting TA providers to provide Technical Assistance (T.A.) services for the selected SMEs.


B. SME Background
The selected SME is an electric mobility manufacturer and solutions company specializing in providing innovative and sustainable transportation solutions, such as electric bicycles and ride-sharing services to urban communities, in so doing reducing carbon emissions and improving access to affordable transportation options. The SME currently operates in Accra (Ghana), and Lome (Togo) and is seeking the expertise of a Business Strategy and Growth Consultant (herein referred to as "The Consultant" or "TA Provider", used interchangeably) spanning multiple domains to optimize its operational efficiency and foster expansion.

 

C. Objective
Innohub Foundation's goal is to engage the services of a consultant to support the SME towards developing and implementing an effective growth strategy and attaining investor readiness.


D. Scope of Assignment
The TA provider will work under a Service Contract with Innohub Foundation. The Consultant will work closely with the SME and nominating fund, as well as Innohub Foundation's Executive Director and M&E Lead; this assignment will be under direct supervision of Innohub Foundation's Executive Director.

 

The TA provider will be responsible for:
* Conducting thorough market analysis to explore opportunities for local expansion and exports into selected markets within the African region.
* Developing a tailored growth strategy that outlines the roadmap for market expansion, customer acquisition, and sustainability.
 * Leading and implementing an investment readiness plan for the SME, the scope of which would include the following:
* Conduct comprehensive due diligence to outline the gaps and corrective measures to improve the SME's capital raise efforts.
* Review existing strategy documents including Business Plan, Financial Model, Business Model Canvas etc.
* Developing a deal room.

 

E. Deliverables
The Consultant is expected to deliver:
* Market study report which highlights the opportunities, challenges, and recommendations for entry into selected markets.
* A comprehensive strategic growth plan that outlines mid to long-term action plan for growth and expansion
* Facilitate connections with strategic partners identified towards business growth and market expansion
* Revised Investor readiness documentation including the following:
* Strategic Business plan
* Financial Model
* Business Model Canvas

 

Other relevant capital raise documentations as agreed with the client
* Set-up the deal room

 

F. Duration of Assignment
The Consultant's service contract will last for a maximum period of six (6) months, starting from August 2024. The consultant will collaborate with the SME through a blend of virtual and physical meetings as appropriate.


G. Reporting
The Consultant will be required to provide updates and submit the following reports based on agreed deliverables:
1. Project inception report
2. Monthly update meeting
3. Project completion report

 

H. Selection Criteria
The applicant must be a business advisory firm. A key component of the selection criteria will also be the T.A partner's experience in the assignment applied for.
The selected candidate should possess the following qualifications:
* Experience working with SMEs, with reference to growth consulting and capital raise support for SMEs.
* Demonstrable success in capital raise and investor matching
*Experience working in the Management Consultancy
* Acumen for problem- solving and expert knowledge of business strategy , business model innovation, strategic growth planning, and capital raise
*Excellent communication, collaboration, and presentation abilities.


I. Application Process
Interested and qualified Consultant(s) should send their Technical Proposal outlining their experience and approach to addressing the objectives outlined in this ToR, along with a separate Financial Proposal quoted in Ghana Cedis, to procurement@innohub.com.gh by 17:00GMT on Monday 5th August 2024. The Technical Proposal excluding CVs should not exceed 10 pages (CVs could be added as an appendix).

* Applicants must attach Company registration certificates and Tax clearance certificates.
* The consultant is expected to complete at least sixty expert days over a Six (6)-month contract period.
