Position Description
The Warehouse Assistant will support daily warehouse operations, including the receipt, handling, storage, transportation, loss management, and reporting of commodities. In this role, the Warehouse Assistant will supervise casual workers, including cleaners, laborers, security guards, and fumigation service providers, ensuring they perform their tasks efficiently. Additionally, the Warehouse Assistant will maintain cleanliness within the warehouse and ensure the safety and security of all stocks.
Specific duties and responsibilities include the following:
• Verifies receipts correspond to the description, specification, weight, quantity and packaging on the Purchase Order and/or waybill/delivery note and that the consignee and destination details are correct.
• Inspects the condition of commodities being received (ie whether they are rotten, wet, infested, leaking, expired, damaged or poorly packaged) and advises the commodity counter on action to be taken to quarantine, reconstitute or set aside, as appropriate
• Arranges necessary preparations for receiving and dispatching commodities.
• Checks stack card entries are correct, and goods descriptions and specifications are consistent with good warehouse practice
• Enter all receipts, dispatches, losses and adjustments in appropriate ledgers promptly, ensuring they are against the correct project name and fund code and goods descriptions and specifications.
• Reviews and verify distribution plans to ensure they are fully approved and accurately completed before dispatching commodities.
• Follow the FIFO method during commodity dispatch.
• Check that the correct commodity/ goods and quantities are loaded for dispatch, following proper warehouse practices.
• Maintain security and access control by ensuring guard presence during loading/unloading, safeguarding warehouse keys, and allowing only authorized personnel in storage areas.
• Keep Warehouse and Stack Information Boards up to date and conduct regular warehouse inspections, reporting any structural or security issues.
Required education and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in any field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, preferably in USG food warehouse management within an International NGO.
• Proficiency in MS Office, including Windows, Microsoft Word, and Excel.
• Demonstrates honesty, confidentiality, reliability, and trustworthiness.
• Ability to follow directions and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
• Open to learning about CARE’s mission, gender equality, and women’s empowerment initiatives.
• Strong numerical skills
