Responsibilities:

  • Own thermal subsystems by developing and optimizing active thermal regulation systems using custom TECs, heatsinks, fabrics, and other thermal regulation strategies
  • Architect and design products by driving mechanical system architecture through ideation, CAD, rapid prototyping, and iteration, factoring in manufacturing, cost, and reliability, and collaborating with cross-functional teams for seamless subsystem integration.
  • Perform thermal and fluid analyses using simulation tools, validate designs with lab testing (e.g. - temp sensors, thermal cameras) and DOEs, then correlate data to real-world performance to refine solutions and conduct root-cause analyses.
  • Partner with suppliers in Asia to drive design for manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA), oversee build processes, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and implement continuous improvements during pilot builds and production ramps.
  • Contribute beyond thermal aspects by supporting general mechanical design (plastic enclosures, metal stamping, soft goods integration)

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and thermal management (e.g., TECs, heatsinks, heat pipes, insulation strategies, thermally conductive fabrics).
  • Experience shipping high-volume consumer products, including manufacturing support in Asia.
  • Highly proficient in CAD (e.g. Solidworks, NX, Creo), DFM/DFA, and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer fundamentals, thermal instrumentation, DOEs, and root cause analysis techniques.
  • Highly proficient in data analysis techniques (e.g. - Python, Matlab)
  • BSME or equivalent (MS preferred)
  • Willingness and ability to travel to China as needed
