Review and optimize part, mold, and tool designs for manufacturability, cost, and performance.
Review Supplier provided mold flow simulations to ensure proper and scalable tool design and part quality.
Understand and review applicable scientific molding principles to define, validate, and control process parameters.
Initiate, review, and drive automation solutions, including robotic handling and inspection systems.
Qualification Support:
Collaborate with Quality Engineers who lead tool and process qualification activities, including:
Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) standards for automotive projects.
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) frameworks with Installation Qualification (IQ), Operational Qualification (OQ), and Performance Qualification (PQ), protocols for FDA-regulated products.
Provide technical support during tool trials, first article inspections, and process validation efforts to ensure tooling and processes meet required standards.
Program and Project Management:
Work with product-level program managers to develop and maintain project schedules related to tooling and process qualifications.
Manage suppliers’ performance and ensure on-time deliverables
Ensure accurate and thorough record-keeping for all tooling, trials, and validation activities.
Coordinate with cross-functional teams to align tooling projects with program timelines and deliverables.
Collaboration and Continuous Improvement:
Partner with toolmakers, vendors, and suppliers to ensure tooling meets requirements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure product designs align with manufacturing capabilities (DFM).
Identify and implement process improvements, cost-saving measures, and efficiency optimizations.
Provide technical support to suppliers (tooling and/or molding)
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering (Master’s preferred).
8+ years in tooling engineering or injection molding.
Scientific molding principles and process validation, including Window studies and Design of Experiments (DOEs)
Advanced statistical data analysis and presentations.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance analysis.
Metrology
Industry standards such as Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Operational Qualification (OQ), Performance Qualification (PQ), and Installation Qualification (IQ) for regulated processes.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with high-precision molding and complex tooling
Experience working with Contract Manufacturers, Joint Development Partners, etc. in the USA, Mexico, Europe, and Asia
Knowledge of materials and their molding characteristics.
Certification in scientific molding (e.g., RJG Master Molder).
