RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Promotes proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Develops team members by providing regular feedback, coaching, and formal training.
  • Fosters collaboration by creating opportunities for people to work together, enabling them to contribute to the business and learn from each other.
  • Identifies and manages geothermal hazards and associated risks in the open pit by capturing and analysing geotechnical drilling, mapping, and temperature data, and through regular field inspections.
  • Develops and communicates geothermal risk reviews for yearly, quarterly, and monthly mine plans.
  • Provides updated geoscientific information and technical project management to all stakeholders through reports and meetings as required by the Superintendent.
  • Offers technical mentoring and guidance for the section and department.
  • Develops, scopes, and manages technical projects using the site's appropriate project management tools, tracking against relevant KPIs and performance metrics, and coordinating with various departments and consultants as required.
  • Delivers work within the approved budget, managing any variances in accordance with the escalation process.

 

Training & Experience 

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification: Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Engineering (Geotechnical, Reservoir).
  • Proven experience in geotechnical and geothermal analysis, soil mechanics, and mine design.
  • Field experience in geotechnical drilling, site investigations, and monitoring.
  • Knowledge of local and international geotechnical standards and regulations.
  • Strong proficiency in modelling software and relevant engineering tools such as MineSight and Leapfrog.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening and interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution, and training.
  • PNG Driver's License.
  • Accreditation from the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc. (to be completed as part of the work permit process).

 

Desirable:

  • 7+ years of relevant work experience in a mining environment in a geotechnical/geothermal position.
  • Proven record of leading, managing and developing a team.
  • Demonstrated evidence of managing and working in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Exposure to geothermal and geotechnical/geothermal monitoring systems.
  • Additional qualification in Project Management.
  • Experience with project management.
