A unique opportunity to work in partnership and lead a school on its journey to Outstanding.
We are seeking to appoint a well-qualified, enthusiastic and inspirational leader to assume overall leadership of Bruntcliffe Academy whilst the substantive Principal is on maternity leave. This offers an exciting and rare opportunity to work in close partnership with the Executive Team to lead a large 11-16 academy which is passionate about providing the highest standard of educational experience possible for our young people.
GORSE is led by our Chief Executive Officer, Sir John Townsley and is a vibrant and forward-thinking trust which places all students, in particular those who come from the most challenging backgrounds, at the centre of its work. No more evident is the work of the trust than at Bruntcliffe Academy. Prior to joining GORSE, Bruntcliffe Academy was a failing school that the local community had turned their backs on. At that time, the incoming Year 7 cohort comprised of just 60 students, most of whom had not selected the school as a preference for their secondary education. Today, Bruntcliffe Academy is a popular school of nearly 1,400 students with strong student outcomes that for the last set of published data in 2023, placed the academy within the top 10% for whole cohort performance and within the top 12% for disadvantaged student performance.
Our work as an academy and a trust is far from just academic, although we do firmly believe in the opportunities that excellent GCSE grades afford young people. Bruntcliffe Academy’s core values centre around ‘Productivity, Community, Integrity, Inclusivity and Ambition’. At Bruntcliffe Academy we work together as a community of staff, students, and parents/carers to deliver a rich education that meets the wide and varying needs of our bold and ambitious students.
This role represents an exciting opportunity for a candidate who has a strong moral compass and is determined to ensure that all students thrive within an academic curriculum with plentiful enrichment opportunities, no matter what their background is. The successful applicant will enjoy regular, personalised CPD opportunities within a culture which offers collaborative peer support and opportunities to review the academy’s practice in a manner which is conducive to supporting colleagues in continuing to provide the very highest standards of education, care, and guidance, so that all students are afforded the gift of an exceptional education.
We would strongly encourage interested applicants to arrange a visit, or to discuss the role. To do this please contact Sir John Townsley, Chief Executive Officer or Leanne Griffiths, Deputy Chief Executive Officer in the first instance via Christine Watson at christine.watson@tgat.org.uk.
