Role Summary

A reputable insurance institution in Ghana is seeking a competent individual for the role of Managing Director to lead and direct the company's operational and strategic initiatives. The role holder will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and administrative direction to drive the company's mission and objectives.

The role holder  will oversee and manage daily operations to ensure efficient and effective business performance, meeting budget and financial goals. The ideal candidate must have a strong background in insurance, with a minimum of 15 years of relevant work experience.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership:

  • Develop and implement the company’s strategic plan to achieve growth, profitability, and market leadership.
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, markets, and partnerships.
  • Oversee the development and execution of short and long-term goals aligned with the company's vision.

Operational Management:

  • Ensure the effective and efficient operation of the company, including underwriting, claims management, product development, and customer service.
  • Implement best practices and operational processes to optimize performance across all departments.
  • Drive innovation and digital transformation to enhance operational efficiency and customer experience.

Financial Management:

  • Oversee the financial performance of the company, ensuring profitability, cost control, and risk management.
  • Manage the company’s capital and financial resources, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

Governance and Compliance:

  • Ensure that the company adheres to all regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Work with the Board of Directors to maintain effective governance practices.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct, corporate governance, and social responsibility.

People Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the senior management team, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee talent management, succession planning, and organizational development to ensure the company has the necessary skills and capabilities to achieve its goals.
  • Promote a positive and inclusive workplace culture that aligns with the company’s values.

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Represent the company in interactions with key stakeholders, including clients, regulators, investors, and industry bodies.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the Board of Directors, ensuring effective communication and reporting.
  • Act as the public face of the company, enhancing its reputation and brand in the marketplace.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and manage key risks to the company, including operational, financial, regulatory, and reputational risks.
  • Implement and monitor risk management strategies and frameworks to protect the company’s assets and stakeholders.

Business Development:

  • Drive business growth by identifying and capitalizing on new market opportunities.
  • Oversee the development and launch of new insurance products and services that meet market demands.
  • Monitor market trends and competitor activities to maintain a competitive edge.

Qualifications, Skills and Related Experience

Qualification

  • Master’s degree in Business or Finance is desirable.
  • Professional Certification (Chartered Insurer)
  • Proven track record of successful strategic planning and execution in a complex, regulated environment.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience in managing large P&L responsibilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of insurance industry regulations, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Work Experience

Minimum 15 years overall relevant work experience, a minimum 10 of which should have been at board or senior management positions in an insurance company
