JOB DESCRIPTION
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop local finance and investment partnerships and networks relevant for client Agri SMEs.
- Structure the investment readiness preparation process, aligning the gaps/needs of the investees and the requirements of investors.
- Source and assess proposals for financial viability that can be made investment-ready with tailored TA from IDH Growing Together and NICFI programs. Perform TA needs assessment and due diligence on client SMEs and projects where required.
- Design and oversee delivery of tailor-made Technical Assistance to help SMEs and projects qualify for and obtain financing from a network of financial service providers.
- Support in the development of tools and processes for IDH work around investment readiness for SMEs.
- Organize convenings and dialogues between SMEs, TA service providers and Financial Service Providers to close the expectation gaps between them.
- Participate in new innovative financial product development for Agri SMEs and Small holder farmers.
- Identify suitable TA providers around business development, coaching, investment readiness, etc.
- Drive the knowledge-sharing mandate of the Hub by initiating, preparing and disseminating relevant learning briefs and communication materials
Job responsibilities
- Build IDH’s niche in an investment ecosystem with numerous financial institutions that offer similar services and chase the same SMEs in the market.
- Long lead time for deals in the market whereas IDH programs that support investment readiness have short delivery periods.
- Diverse country regulatory frameworks that are likely to skew investments towards some countries and leave out countries with the most need.
- Dearth of professional service providers that deliver quality TA for SMEs at affordable rates.
- High expectations of SMEs to obtain financing in shortest amount of time without sufficient investment and commitment in the preparations for due diligence.
- An investment and entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to connect the realities of the agri-food companies with the needs of financial institutions.
- A strong business acumen with ability to identify and build a pipeline of investable deals for financial institutions
- Good understanding of investor requirements for different types of client agri-SMEs and value chains.
- Results-driven work approach that is focused on brokering successful financing deals.
- Good people and communication skills in networking and managing relationships with organizations.
- A proactive and pragmatic approach to solving business growth challenges
Job requirements
- 5+ years of experience in agri-SME finance and investments, SME development or related field
- Proven track record of sourcing and connecting agri SMEs with investors
- Experience in coaching and/or supporting entrepreneurs in their growth and capital raising ambitions
- Ability to network and build relationships with financiers and investors
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong understanding of agri-food value chains and SME finance
- Experience in navigating complex investment processes
- Proven track record of building relationships with agri SMEs
- Experience with gender mainstreaming is a plus.
