Financial Statement Preparation: Will be responsible for preparing accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. These reports will provide management with a clear financial picture of the company, ensuring transparency and aiding in strategic decision-making.
Account Reconciliation: Will reconciling company financial accounts, such as bank statements, credit cards, and other financial transactions. By regularly reviewing and matching financial records, the Finance Associate will ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data while identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
Journal Entries & Ledger Maintenance: Will manage the preparation and posting of journal entries, ensuring all transactions are recorded correctly in the general ledger.
Accounts Payable & Receivable Management: Handling both accounts payable and receivable functions, the Finance Associate will manage invoicing, payment processing, and credit management.
Budgeting & Forecasting: Active participation in budgeting and financial forecasting, including preparing financial models and analyzing historical data to project future financial performance. the Finance Associate will work closely with management to optimize budget allocations and ensure financial resources are used efficiently to support business growth.
Regulatory Compliance & Taxation: Ensuring compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and industry standards is a critical part of this role. The Finance Associate will stay updated with tax legislation from regulatory bodies such as FIRS and LIRS, ensuring proper tax filings and timely submissions. Additionally, they will monitor regulatory updates, interpret tax laws, and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
Financial Analysis & Reporting Will conduct financial analysis to provide valuable insights into the company’s performance, profitability, and cash flow. By analyzing trends and financial data, they will support business decision-making, helping to identify opportunities for cost savings and revenue growth.
Tax Compliance & Documentation Managing the company’s tax obligations, the Finance Associate will oversee tax filings, maintain necessary documentation, and ensure that all required tax evidence is stored securely. This includes following up on new tax regulations, interpreting financial data for tax compliance, and maintaining proper records of all tax-related activities.
Internal Controls & Risk Management To safeguard financial data integrity and prevent errors or fraud, the Finance Associate will implement and maintain internal controls. This includes reviewing financial processes, ensuring compliance with accounting policies, and identifying risks that could impact the company’s financial stability.
Qualifications & Requirements
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree (Second Class Upper) or Higher National Diploma (Upper Credit) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Strong academic performance reflects a solid foundation in financial principles and analytical skills.
Professional Certifications: Possession of professional certifications such as Chartered Accountant (ICAN/ACCA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) is an added advantage.
Work Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within a similar industry. Experience in handling financial reporting, budgeting, taxation, and compliance will be an added advantage.
Technical & Analytical Skills: Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, SAP, or other ERP financial systems is essential. The candidate must also possess strong analytical skills to interpret financial data, identify trends, and support decision-making processes.
Knowledge & Compliance: A strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and financial regulatory requirements is required. The role also demands a keen awareness of tax laws, financial compliance, and internal control best practices.
