Key Responsibilities:
- Operation of Equipment:
- Operate excavators and other heavy machinery to perform excavation, trenching, and grading tasks.
- Control the machine’s levers and pedals to move materials as required by the project.
- Perform tasks such as digging trenches, lifting heavy materials, and clearing debris.
- Maintenance and Inspections:
- Conduct pre-operational checks to ensure the excavator is in good working condition.
- Perform routine maintenance such as cleaning, lubricating, and checking fluid levels.
- Report equipment malfunctions or safety issues promptly to the supervisor.
- Site Preparation and Coordination:
- Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, or instructions to determine excavation requirements.
- Coordinate with supervisors, surveyors, and other team members to execute tasks accurately.
- Ensure the work area is prepared and free of obstructions for safe operation.
- Safety Compliance:
- Follow all safety regulations and company policies to minimize risks on-site.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure others on-site do the same.
- Monitor surroundings and adjust operations to avoid accidents or damage to property.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain records of daily tasks, equipment usage, and completed work.
- Submit reports on progress, challenges, or incidents encountered during operations.
- Problem-Solving and Adaptability:
- Adjust operations to accommodate unforeseen obstacles or changes in the project plan.
- Identify and resolve minor issues with equipment or operations.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Education and Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification or license to operate heavy machinery, including excavators, as required by local regulations.
- Experience:
- Proven experience operating excavators or similar heavy equipment.
- Familiarity with various attachments and their uses.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of excavation and grading techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret site plans and blueprints.
- Proficiency in operating equipment controls with precision.
- Basic mechanical skills for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Personal Attributes:
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
- Strong awareness of safety protocols and surroundings.
- Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
