Responsibilities

Operations Start-up and Registration Coordination 60%

  • Manage and keep updated the CO start-up plan with clear timelines, milestones, and resource allocation for the country office.
  • With the support of the Deputy Regional Director, manage the day-to-day activities and wide-ranging functions related to the Ethiopia CO start-up – examples include establishing local office registration and space, staff recruitment, creating data management and security protocols, establishing cross- function CO policies and procedures, identifying vendors (including survey firms), etc.
  • Contribute to the identification of potential risks (e.g., legal, financial, political, operational) associated with establishing and operating the office and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Coordinate with IPA Global team members to ensure the start-up activities and plans are moving forward in timely manner – these IPA teams include Communications, Legal, Finance, BD, HR, and Operations.
  • Provide regular updates on the progress of the Ethiopia CO opening to IPA’S Senior Management Team.

Business Development 30%

  • In collaboration with the global Business Development team and in dialogue with the IPA Research and Policy teams, identify and develop potential projects with meaningful research and policy potential.
  • Participate in project design, ensuring alignment with IPA’s mission and goals, and lead budgeting during the proposal Stage.

Stakeholder Management 10%

  • Build and manage relationships with governmental partners,PIs, donors, and implementing partners.
  • Represent IPA at meetings and forums.


Qualifications

Required

  • At least three, though preferably five, years of experience with managing multiple research or policy projects
  • Experience with IPA systems, policies, and projects
  • Excellent project management, budgeting, and organizational skills; meticulous attention to detail
  • Experience building and managing relationships with stakeholders, PIs, and government partners
  • Track record of successful project development experience
  • Ability to find quick and effective solutions to unforeseen circumstances, while applying sound judgement
  • Flexible, independent, self-motivating, ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and work under pressure
  • Ability to work in a diverse, multi-cultural environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, fluency in English is required
  • Willingness to travel 3-5 time a year to Ethiopia
  • Master’s degree in international affairs, international public policy, development economics or field related to international economic development

Preferred

  • Experience with managing projects in Ethiopia is preferred
