Partners in Food Solutions (PFS) connects the expertise of volunteers from its corporate partners (General Mills, Cargill, DSM-Firmenich, Buhler, Hershey, Ardent Mills, and JM Smucker) with small and growing food processing companies in Africa. Our goal is to increase the capacity of the African food-processing sector to produce high-quality, nutritious, safe, and affordable food for local populations, while at the same time increasing and sustaining demand for crops grown by smallholder farmers. We are pioneering a remote knowledge-transfer model through our custom, cloud-based platform so that volunteers can share their expertise from their home offices — or anywhere in the world.
About the Engagement Associate Role:
- The Engagement Associate supports PFS’s volunteer operations and corporate partnerships teams in engaging a pool of 1500+ volunteer expert consultants from across our seven multinational partner companies that work to support our clients in sub-Saharan Africa.
- This is a key role in interacting with corporate employees from across the world – helping recruit volunteers, respond to inquiries, place experts in the right project roles aligned with their skills and capabilities, and deliver a high-quality experience while they are engaged with PFS projects.
- All tasks and projects require the exercise of independent judgment, a keen sense of responsibility, strong written and verbal communication skills, and commitment to the organization's success in consistently delivering results and completing projects with a positive and cooperative attitude.
- Occasional international travel may be required.
Responsibilities:
- Recruitment of volunteer consultants and placing them in open positions
- Respond to volunteer inquiries and assist with outreach.
- Process registrations, deactivations, and other tasks as needed.
- Corporate engagement: Build relationships with key corporate contacts. Support our PFS corporate partners in living out their purpose and implementing CSR priorities.
- Support volunteer experience and engagement activities— helping deliver a high-quality end-to-end volunteer experience through improvements of processes and touch points along the volunteer journey e.g. onboarding, recognition, etc.
- Be a key user of PFS’ Salesforce system for volunteer outreach and placement, updating profiles, and other related activities
- Contribute to a collaborative, professional, and fun work environment. Collaborate closely with African program associates to execute successful and timely handoffs.
- Event planning, participation, and support

Required Skills & Experience:
- 4-year college/university degree
- Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong collaboration skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team
- Deadline-driven
- Willingness to adjust hours to accommodate the needs of the job
- Ability to organize and effectively manage a wide array of tasks, projects and responsibilities
- Ability to work productively in a fluid environment with frequent interruptions or changes in priorities
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite Products (Word, PowerPoint) and Google Apps (Gmail, Calendar, Drive)
- Can-do, positive attitude
- Tech-savvy
Preferred Skills
- French language proficiency
- Degree in business administration, marketing, communications or related.
- 2-5 years of work experience in a professional office environment
- Experience working in a corporate environment
- International experience
- A passion for international development or corporate philanthropy/social responsibility
