JOB DESCRIPTION


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide visible felt safety leadership through open and frequent dialogue of safe work practice and expectations
  • Drive consistent active engagement in all aspects of the team’s safety culture including meetings, training, etc.
  • Directs the resolution of complex and often very unusual social/business/technical problems through collaboration with peers, subordinates and subject matter experts.
  • Foster internal and external partner collaboration
  • Identify the Company’s strategic objectives and convert those operational-centric objectives into actionable team strategies in a Legacy Sites context.
  • Deliver due diligence support to investigate and generate recommendations relative to target’s current and historic environmental liabilities and effectively convey how those liabilities could positively or negatively impact Newmont on a go-forward basis.
  • Lead unified leadership and direction through regional managers and a combination of internal functions, external legal counsel, consultants, contractors and regulators.
  • Drive constant pursuit of innovative solutions with the goal of long-term risk and cost reduction.
  • Primary responsibility for an annual operating budget in excess of $87-$90M across approximately 14 sites, and an accrued environmental liability of approximately $329-$330M.
  • Apply experience and business judgement to solve problems and deliver timely decisions.

Training & Experience

  • Knowledgeable in a wide range of subject matter including safety, civil engineering, closure and reclamation, environmental compliance, external relations, first nations, business integrity, project controls, and accounting.
  • Expert in Health and Safety, negotiation and consensus building, civil/environmental engineering, environmental compliance, technical writing/communication, budgeting and forecasting, environmental legal systems and major legislation/legal instruments such as CERCLA, RCRA, UMTRCA, ASAOCs, Consent Decrees, etc.  
  • Must be self-motivated, goal orientated, with the ability to work autonomously in a dynamic business environment in addition to working collaboratively and productively in a group and able to complete programmatic projects without direct oversight.
