Key Responsibilities:

  1. Credit Assessment and Approval:
    • Evaluate the creditworthiness of customers by analyzing financial statements, payment history, and credit reports.
    • Recommend credit limits and terms for new and existing customers.
    • Maintain compliance with the organization’s credit policies and procedures.
  2. Debt Collection and Account Reconciliation:
    • Monitor customer accounts to identify overdue payments.
    • Follow up on outstanding debts through calls, emails, or written communication.
    • Negotiate payment plans and resolve disputes or queries regarding invoices.
    • Reconcile customer accounts to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
  3. Credit Risk Management:
    • Identify and mitigate credit risks by maintaining strict credit controls.
    • Monitor trends in the credit portfolio and highlight potential risks to management.
    • Work with the finance team to forecast bad debt provisions and manage exposure.
  4. Reporting and Documentation:
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of credit approvals, collections, and payment statuses.
    • Prepare regular reports on credit performance, overdue accounts, and aging analyses.
    • Provide insights and recommendations to management on improving the credit control process.
  5. Customer Relationship Management:
    • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients while enforcing credit policies.
    • Address and resolve customer concerns related to billing and payments.
    • Provide clear communication to customers about credit terms and payment expectations.
  6. Compliance and Policy Enforcement:
    • Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements related to credit management.
    • Enforce adherence to the organization’s credit and collections policies.
    • Stay updated on changes in credit laws and regulations that may impact operations.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in credit management (e.g., CICM, ICM) are an advantage.
  • Proven experience in credit control, accounts receivable, or debt collection roles.

Key Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Ability to handle pressure and meet deadlines.

Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of relevant legal and regulatory frameworks related to credit and collections.
  • Experience in credit management within a specific industry (e.g., banking, retail, or manufacturing) may be preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
