 Position Description 

The Commodity Accountant will be responsible overseeing the tracking, reconciliation, and reporting of school-level commodity dispatches and utilization. The Commodity Accountant will ensure accurate documentation of all commodity movements, resolve discrepancies, and ensure timely submission of reports. The position entails managing the entire commodity accounting process, ensuring transparency and accuracy. The Commodity Accountant will collaborate with warehouses, schools, logistics teams, and program staff to facilitate efficient handling of school feeding commodities, from receipt to distribution. . 

Specific duties and responsibilities include the following

• Maintain accurate records of all commodity movements, including receipts, distributions, and losses from the source to schools. 

• Prepare daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on commodity transactions. 

• Reconcile physical stock counts with commodity and school feeding records, addressing any discrepancies. 

• Ensure compliance with commodity accounting policies, including safekeeping of information and supporting documents. 

• Assist schools in maintaining an effective inventory tracking system. 

• Review school stock counts, identifying and mitigating any risks in storage or distribution. 

• Verify attendance sheets and stock registers during school visits, supporting staff in correctly completing these documents. 

• Monitor commodity usage trends and conduct pipeline analysis for determining district-level commodity needs and procurement planning. 

• Ensure adherence to USDA and CARE policies for commodity management, handling, and reporting.

 • Support internal and external audits, ensuring implementation of recommendations. 

• Assist with Data Quality Assurance of commodity reports and maintain organized documentation for audits and reviews. 

• Guide school coordinators and personnel in using reporting forms, such as school stock registers and attendance sheets. 

• Coordinate with partner schools and warehouses to verify commodity flow and inventories. 

• Liaise with the Finance and Operations Manager to ensure financial reporting aligns with program compliance

 Required education and experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, logistics, or statistics or a related field, ideally accompanied by a recognized accounting qualification.

 • 2 years of relevant experience for school feeding project or commodity management project. 

• Proficient in MS Office, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel and large data management. 

• Prior experience working on projects funded by U.S. agencies is an asset. 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in local language with good proficiency in English being an advantage. 

• Excellent time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a dynamic and complex environment. 

• High level of integrity, with a proven ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate trustworthiness.
