JOB DESCRIPTION




Business Development (60%)

  • Strategic Planning:
  • Lead the development and execution of the Annual Business Development Plan in alignment with organisational priorities and country-specific opportunities.
  • Identify and access new business opportunities, including calls for proposals, grants, tenders, and partnerships.
  • Proposal Development & Partnership Building:
  • Manage and grow the organisation's network of partners and stakeholders.
  • Lead the design and development of high-quality project proposals and budgets, ensuring alignment with client and organisational standards.
  • Foster collaborations and consortiums to expand the reach of economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and business growth programmes.
  • Market Positioning:
  • Map market opportunities and build relationships with funders, partners, and procurement bodies to enhance the organisation's market position in key sectors.
  • Revenue Growth:
  • Expand the portfolio of contracts and projects across multiple geographies, within and beyond Ghana where applicable.
  • Support the development of training programmes and sell these to relevant audiences (e.g., enterprises, membership bodies).

Operational Oversight (20%)

  • Office Administration & Compliance:
  • Ensure the Ghana country office complies with all legal, regulatory, and operational requirements, including permits and licences.
  • Submit timely and accurate reports to the global Challenges Group and in-country authorities.
  • Financial Oversight:
  • Oversee the financial performance of the country office, ensuring budgets are aligned with organisational goals and tracking progress against financial targets.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to draft and manage the country budget.
  • Quality Assurance:
  • Ensure that project design, delivery, and outcomes meet high-quality and ethical standards.
  • Work with project managers to achieve both short-term and long-term impact within agreed budgets and timelines.

Team & Line Management (20%)

  • Team Development:
  • Line manage in-country staff, providing coaching, mentoring, and professional development support.
  • Identify skill gaps and implement training programmes to upskill team members in alignment with organisational priorities.
  • Performance Management:
  • Oversee team performance using the Challenges performance and appraisal process.
  • Create clear development pathways for staff and consultants, ensuring alignment with the organisation's competency framework.
  • Leadership & Recruitment:
  • Lead the recruitment of new staff and consultants to support business growth initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.


Essential

  • • Proven experience of relationship-driven business development (e.g., lead generation, building networks and partnerships, developing income streams, building a business development pipeline) within the Ghanaian context.
  • • 8+ years in a similar role with demonstrated success in business development, operational oversight, and team management.
  • • Experience of writing persuasive proposals or project outlines for successful bids for contracts, grants, or tenders, particularly in Ghana.
  • • Education: University degree or equivalent experience.
  • • Strong project management, financial analysis, and modelling skills.
  • • High-level IT competence, particularly in Microsoft Office.
  • • Excellent communication, negotiation, and professional networking skills.
  • • Confidence in mentoring colleagues and using innovative methods to improve work processes.
  • • Experience in growing a portfolio of contracts within Ghana or similar markets.
  • • Strong connections within Ghana’s business growth ecosystem and networks.
  • Desirable
  • • Experience of working with disadvantaged or under-represented groups in Ghana to support them into employment or entrepreneurial activities.
  • • Experience of working in social enterprise and/or impact-driven business in Ghana.
