Ashesi's mission is to propel an African renaissance by educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders. The Education Collaborative spearheads a model of collective engagement that promises to significantly reshape higher education outcomes for students. This transformative scale initiative adopts a network approach that fosters trust and collective commitments among higher education leaders and stakeholders to generate sustainable results within the systems they govern and influence. By 2030, The Education Collaborative aims to build a 140-member network that serves at least one million students, educating ethical, entrepreneurial leaders capable of creating jobs, advancing industries, and driving economic growth across Africa. Our focal areas reflect the pressing developmental needs and trends in higher education in Africa. Currently covering trending needs in entrepreneurship and employability development, ethics and leadership, and faculty development and research.


Role Summary: The Assistant Director, Programs, will facilitate the successful development, implementation, and scaling up of these turn-key initiatives across the network and the East Africa region. The role will have oversight for programs development and engagement in East Africa.

This role is an exciting opportunity for a mid-management-level, experienced leader to contribute to the programmatic foundations of the Education Collaborative initiative, and deepen the programmatic engagements in the East Africa Regional Hub specifically.


Reports to: Executive Director, Education Collaborative



Key Responsibilities  

  1. Working closely with the Executive Director, have oversight of programs and initiatives in the EduCollab. This includes the management of goals and outcomes for focal initiatives, reporting, and budgeting, as well as project leads and consultant management from member institutions.
  2. Work closely with the program coordinator to maintain year-round connections with support initiatives, and with the communications team to ensure well-coordinated and accurate content is communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  3. Support Exec Director to coordinate monitoring, evaluation, and learning consultants, to ensure adequate tracking, reporting, and learning for the program portfolio.
  4. Working with East Africa Hub Director and Strategic Committee, strategize and roll out a plan to deepen the East Africa region’s cross-institution collaborations and programs; within the larger scope for EduCollab programs.
  5. Support to manage program interns and temporary program staff for events.
