 Role Purpose

This Project Manager will be working with the wider British Council team to provide management oversight of the delivery of Arts programming, promotion of audience engagement and partnership development in Ethiopia which will contribute to the British Council’s Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) Arts programme.  These projects will be delivered through close liaison with the Deputy Director (Cultural Engagement Lead) and the wider SSA Arts Regional Leadership Team.

 

Main accountabilities but not limited to the following:

Leadership & Management

  • Can play a project or programme leadership role on a specific component of a larger project or programme.
  • Manages delivery teams and/or project team.
  • Manages all EDI processes and ensures comprehensive use of internal tools in programme design and delivery.
  • Manages gender integration and mainstreaming across the project or programme, and the country office levels.

 

Relationship & Stakeholders

  • Leads on relationships and stakeholder engagement at a project/programme level including relationship with clients and partners.
  • Holds delivery partners to account including budget and supply chain management where applicable.
  • Communicates internally and externally about a project’s success/challenges and lessons learned.

 

Commercial and Financial Management

  • Manages and controls the agreed budget, expenditure, and income against plans, ensures accuracy of reports and ensures sound financial management and analysis across the portfolio through monthly finance reviews and quarterly business reviews.
  • Ensures timely and accurate planning and forecasting, timely reporting of risks, including financial and identify opportunities and mitigation actions.

 

Programme Management

  • Ensures that every project/programme is compliant with all internal policies and processes (for example safeguarding, EDI, supply change management, social value, and conflict sensitivity).
  • Contributes to development of, owns and delivers, the Programme Management Plan for all relevant projects in Ethiopia.
  • Identifies risks in a project or programme and puts together mitigation strategies with Senior Responsible Officer.

 

Role specific knowledge and minimum requirements:

  • University degree in Arts, Culture, or other relevant fields of study
  • Practical Experience:
  1. A proven track record of:
  • Building and maintaining partnerships
  • Securing partnership funding
  • Identifying business development opportunities and marketing
  1. Experience of client management, partner management and/or contract management
  2. Knowledge of the Ethiopian and SSA Creative sector
  3. High interpersonal and communication skills

 

Desirable:

  • Foundation level Project Management qualification (in-house training or evidence of CPD in this area could be considered)
