RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the design and development of awareness raising and inspiring programming related to GMF’s net zero acceleration funding areas (e.g. transportation, waste, water, land use, energy).  
  • Lead the development and delivery of innovative or first of kind knowledge tools, resources and activities that support municipalities in planning for and building municipal infrastructure. 
  • Develop knowledge mobilization and dissemination systems and strategies to optimize GMF’s impact and reach in the Canadian municipal sector.  
  • Lead the development and refining of knowledge management systems for the Capacity Development team, liaising and collaborating with other GMF units. 
  • Promote and support internal organizational collaboration on knowledge development, brokering and sharing activities. 
  • Identifying and development partnership for training and activity delivery in GMF’s core funding areas. 
  • Review and analyse trends from GMF supported initiatives for the purpose of producing new capacity development products and services based on best practice and lessons learned. 
  • Empower capacity development staff delivering capacity development activities and services for municipal staff, elected officials. 
  • Design and deliver new or first-of-kind capacity building products and services (such as trainings, workshops, advisory services, guidebooks, etc.).  
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the GMF team and in other FCM programs, to ensure a coordinated and complimentary approach to FCM engagement with external partners and our membership.  

Skills You bring:   

  • Requires a Masters’ Degree (or combined life accomplishments) in environmental studies, planning, or related field with strong background in organizational learning, adult education, or equivalent. 
  • Five to eight (5 – 8) years’ experience in a relevant role (e.g., urban planning, organizational learning, information/knowledge management, training/capacity building, working in an evidence and results-based environment) that requires facilitating information and knowledge exchange within or between organizations, conducting research and developing training materials. 
  • Experience using knowledge sharing tools and platforms (e.g., Learning Management System, Client Relationship Management Database e.g. CRM365, data visualization software e.g. Power BI). 
  • Experience designing and facilitating participatory forums, workshops, online courses and/or training sessions for knowledge development and sharing. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience in the area of sustainable municipal development, environmental issues, and program management.  
  • Knowledge of the Canadian municipal sector structure, needs, and capacity. 
  • Experience in group facilitation and consensus building.  
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (written and oral). Includes the ability to coordinate and work with multi-disciplinary teams, lead meetings and make formal presentations to high-level audiences. 
  • Excellent customer service skills.  
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to establish support and credibility at all levels within and outside the organization. 
  • Strong research and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to spearhead and work independently on projects using excellent judgement. 
  • Excellent project management skills with strong ability to handle multiple tasks.   
  • Ability to administer small budgets, allocating funds for events or travel support, correcting for variances as needed. 
  • Strong political acumen and diplomacy. 
  • Capacity to work in a changing environment and willingness to take on new or evolving responsibilities.
